In 1998, crop circle activity continued, with notable formations including a "Celtic Sun Wheel" in West Kennet and pentagrams in various locations. The year also saw a large fractalesque formation in East Field, Alton Barnes, which was at the time the largest flattened crop area in a crop circle. Some formations, like the one at Tawsmead Copse, were described as gigantic seven-fold formations.
